Description
Due to growth and expanding business development efforts, we are looking to add an exceptionally talented technical writer to our team. Technical writers are an integral part of the business development team and assist in writing competitive proposals and other technical materials to include but not limited to manuals, appendices, operating guides/instructions, and monthly reports. This includes writing, editing, rewriting, authenticating, and desktop publishing.
Duties
- Organize material and complete writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Edit, standardize, or make changes to material prepared by other writers or personnel.
- Work closely with proposal capture managers to support completion of proposals.
- Work with proposal teams to develop responsive and competitive proposals
- Write clear, concise, and compelling narratives incorporating win themes and messaging
- Create storyboards/annotated outlines
- Edit and proofread for compliance with client and company requirements
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
- Review published materials and recommend revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
- Arrange for typing, duplication, and distribution of material.
- Determine proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs; study requests for proposal (RFPs); attend strategy meetings.
- Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information gathering, writing, review, and approval; enter and monitor tracking data; coordinate requirements with contributors; contribute proposal status information to review meetings; transmit proposals.
- Gather proposal information by identifying sources of information; coordinate submissions and collections; identify and communicate risks associated with proposals.
- Develop proposals by assembling information including project nature, objectives/outcomes/deliverables, implementation, methods, timetable, staffing, budget, standards of performance, and evaluation; write, revise, and edit drafts including executive summaries, conclusions, and organization credentials.
- Conduct research as needed - observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources.
Education, Skills & Experience
Education/Experience:
- BA or BS degree, preferably in Communications, English, Journalism or a field related to technical writing
Skills:
- Strong communication skills, including writing, editing, and proofreading
- Strong interpersonal skills; ability to integrate seamlessly into diverse teams
- Familiarity using Adobe Acrobat, PageMaker, In-Design CS4, Illustrator, PhotoShop, Microsoft Office, Open Office and similar desktop publishing tools
- Working knowledge of system oriented architecture (SOA), portal management, network services, cataloging, and offsite storage
- Ability to understand and interpret technical information and technical data
- Ability to organize a wide variety of technical material
- Basic project management skills
- Ability to gather, analyze, and integrate research from a variety of sources, both print and electronic
Preferred Experience:
- Experience writing technical manuals and/or product oriented documentation
- Experience writing for government projects
